Project - Biophysical Assessment of the Tsolum Watershed
With covering of the minsesite underway and an expected reduction of copper leachate over the next few years our attention to the water quality and related issues that have absorbed so much of our time and energy over the past 30 years change to more "normal" recovery planning for the watershed. This involves setting new water quality parameters, assessing the next most limiting factors to healthy aquatic habitats and fish production.
We have been enhancing pinks stocks for 10 years with little increase, even a decrease in spawning pink salmon returning to the river. This has been taking place even with recent improvements in water quality so we have to ask why. By assessing for limiting factors scientifically over the period of a year we will be able to use this information to create a fully prioritized recovery plan and business plan for the Tsolum.
